Pinot Grigio, Tinja, 2010Pinot Grigio, Tinja, 2010Our price: From £12.15ViewThis winery based in Mudgee specialises in small batch winemaking using innovative techniques both for themselves and contract clients. The winery has advanced the approach to quality wine production by planting dryland vineyard to produce lower yields of extremely high quality grapes.David Lowe took over his family estate on his return from a long stint in the Hunter Valley and Bordeaux before that. The amount of energy and work put into management of the vineyards by David Lowe has been absolutely pivotal in ensuring the quality of these wines year in, year out. A unique and individual venture with soaring aspirations. Pinot Gris Le Fromenteau, Josmeyer, 2009Pinot Gris Le Fromenteau, Josmeyer, 2009Our price: From £21.82ViewBiodynamic viticulture is a holistic approach that strives to achieve excellence in winemaking whilst keeping in harmony with nature. It does not use the herbicides or pesticides employed in conventional grape growing. By respecting the soil as a living element, it nurtures the vines with the mineral and organic trace elements that are such a rich part of it. Biodynamic viticulture also takes into consideration the pattern of lunar and cosmic rhythms. The soil is seen simply as a support for vine growing, but as a organism in its own right.Josmeyer distinguishes itself from other producers with very pure wines, totally expressing their terroir, showing delicate fruit and terrific mineral characters. Pinot Gris, Little Beauty, 2010Pinot Gris, Little Beauty, 2010Our price: From £14.17ViewLittle Beauty is a bespoke and independent range of Limited Edition wines from the elemental and unique Waihopai Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand. Distinct flavours are derived from the stony, alluvial river terraces on which the vines are planted. State of the art climatic monitoring equipment has been installed throughout the vineyard proving the site benefits from longer autumns, increased growing degree days and higher diurnal temperatures than other parts of the Marlborough region. 2008 is the first vintage and despite limited volumes, the Little Beauty portfolio unusually includes hand crafted Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Dry Riesling, and of course, Sauvignon Blanc - all expressive examples of what the site offers. Environmental safe-keeping is a priority at Little Beauty - vineyards are Sustainably Accredited and natural wetland features have been retained and enhanced - continually enjoyed by many of New Zealand's native bird species.
Pinot Gris, Santa Celina, 2011Pinot Gris, Santa Celina, 2011Our price: From £9.00ViewTen years ago Jacques and Francois Lurton bought land in Vista Flores, south of Mendoza at an altitude of 1100 metres, and in Barrancas on the plateau to the east of Mendoza at an altitude of 600 metres. These terroirs were selected for the quality of their soil, climate and quantity of available water. As the land had not been previously cultivated the soils were completely free from chemicals. The soil is calcareous and the lack of organic matter happily restricts vigorous vine growth. They produce wines brimming with personality and varietal character.
