ZACCAGNINI – Mario Zaccagnini

In 1973 Mario Zaccagnini established his winery in Staffolo, in Marche. Winemaking was initially a hobby but as he achieved more acclaim for his wines, he realised that a passion could become a vocation. More recently his daughter Rosella and his son in law Franco have joined him and now the Zaccagnini family have 25 hectares of vines in the rolling hills around Staffolo, 450 metres above sea level.

The distinctive microclimate and soil allows their winemaker, Alberto Musatti, to produce Verdicchio wines that are full of character. The Salmagina is made from slightly over ripened grapes and then left on its lees, giving the wine an extra level of structure and elegance with a delicious savoury finish.

As well the usual delicious notes of candied lemon and almonds, time spent on its lees gives this Verdicchio an amazing structure and a savoury, almost salty finish.
