SANTI DIMITRI – Giuseppe Pizzolante Leuzzi

The history of the Vallone family dates back to the end of the 17th century when Angelo Vallone acquired estates in Galatina and Cutrofiano. In 1996 Vincenzo Vallone assisted by the winemaker Giusseppe Pizzolante Leuzzi established the winery with the aim of carrying on, with the help of modern techniques, the agricultural heritage of the family. The winery is situated in the outskirts of Galatina, near Lecce. The positive influence of the Adriatic and Ionan sea on the climate of this region makes this part of Salento the ideal place to grow grape varieties such as Negroamaro, Primitivo and Fiano. The name Santi Dimitri is derived from San Demetrio. Dimitri (or Demetrio) means “dedicated to Demetra”, from the Greek meaning Mother Earth, goddess of fertility of the earth, and this reflects the strong and ancient Greek heritage of Southern Italy.
