Montes Classic Series, Sauvignon Blanc, 2011
The Montes estate in Chile, run by Aurelio Montes and Douglas Murray, is a natural treasure, undoubtedly providing the benchmark for other Chilean wine producers in terms of quality and global appeal.
Founded in 1987 by the two partners, who had both previously worked in the wine industry, the estate set out to prove that Chile could produce better wines than it had to this date. Up until this point, the trend appeared for producers to only sell their produce locally, rather than targeting the worldwide market. Nevertheless, Aurelio
and Douglas spotted the potential quality that the Chilean terroir could produce, and committed fully to the project, sparking an unprecedented interest in Chilean wines all over the world.
Having gone from strength to strength over the past two decades, sales figures peaked in 2005, when over 500, 000 cases were purchased. At this stage, the owners took the conscious decision to cap future production levels at this amount, so as not to see a decline in the quality of their wines. It would therefore seem that,
despite its overwhelming popularity, Montes is not going to become a greedy, mass producing vineyard, instead, with two passionate owners at the helm, continuing to produce quality wines that display the best of what Chile has to offer.
Pale yellow and 100% fermented in stainless steel. No oak. Selected grapes picked to show best varietal aromas and fruit. Extremely attractive tropical fruits and grassy due to the cool Casablanca climate. A fresh, crispy light, happy wine to the palate.
