Eben Sadie, Sequillo Red, 2005

A joint venture between Eben Sadie and business partner Cornel Spies. The grapes are sourced from contracted vineyards carefully overseen and directed by Sadie and the wines are made at the Eben Family Wines cellar. As with the wines under Sadie's own label, they emphasise his belief in the virtue of blends.
Rich, meaty, smoky, lots of pepper. Slightly reductive. Mineral and chalky and with a stalky (but ripe) freshness. Really quite sappy. Fresh and very long. Deceptive because it is so subtle. Light white pepper and lean but not thin. Becoming darker-flavoured and more savoury in the glass.
