Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Château La Nerthe 2008
Château La Nerthe dates back to the 1560s, making it one of the oldest estates in the region. It is also undoubtably one of the finest. Its 90 hectares of vineyard are all cultivated organically and are mainly planed to Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, yielding a scant 25hl/hectare.
The grapes are harvested manually, and following two to three weeks fermentation in stainless steel or wooden vats, malolactic fermentation takes place in seventeenth century stone tanks beneath the Château. The blended wine is then aged in small oak barrels or foudres.
A tropical nose is balanced by an attractive and contrasting palate that might just be grapefruit. Bravo Château La Nerthe.
