"Catherine Roque is best known in the region of Faugères for the establishment of the heralded Domaine de Clovallon, which is now controlled by her daughter Alix.
She then purchased this ‘forgotten’ 5 hectares of vineyard that lay unused on the border of the Clovallon estate. Despite its close proximity, the soil type in this vineyard is very different to that at Clovallon. Here, we see a prevalence of schist soils, giving the wines higher levels of natural acidity and freshness.
Like her daughter Alix at Clovallon, Catherine works biodynamically and with minimum intervention. She uses indigenous yeasts with little or no sulphur and her wines are bottled unfiltered and unfined."
Syrah-led blend (70%), backed up by Mourvèdre (20%) and Grenache (10%). The result is a complex, sophisticated nose marked by liquorice aromas and undertones of blackberry. On the palate, it possesses elegant tannins and finesse, with bright berry fruit balanced by black pepper notes, leading to a persistent, mineral finish.
