Low & no-added SO2!
In recent years, many customers have become aware that they possess intolerances or sensitivities towards sulphites. As a result, we have put together a case containing our favourite low and no-added sulphite wines.
It is safe to say that there is generally a bit of confusion regarding sulphites in wines. SO2 is commonly used in the winemaking process to slow oxidation and also help prevent the development harmful bacteria within the wine. It is also important to clarify that sulphites are found in the skin of grapes and are a by-product of alcoholic fermentation. As a result, no wine is truly sulphite free as they all possess a residual level.
In the case of organic and biodynamic wines, the use of additional sulphites is limited while, in the case of natural wines, no sulphites will be added (however those naturally occurring will remain present). Rather than health reasons, purity is in fact the driving force behind many producer’s decisions to bottle with less or no additional sulphites. Many believe it allows the true expression of their terroir to be experienced by the consumer, unsullied with unnecessary additions. Despite the usefulness of added SO2, there is a school of thought that suggests its inclusion mutes the delicate nuances that express vintage or vineyard character.
We hope that you enjoy our low and no-added sulphites selection and of course, should you have any queries then please get in touch.
