4 Kilos Vinícola
Indigenous grapes – ‘garage’ wine
Winemaker Francesc Grimalt is best known for having rescued the indigenous variety of Callet grapes, in the Balearic wine scene.
He produced his first 4 Kilos vintage in 2006, working in the garage space of a friend.
Since then, their production has gone from strength to strength, drawing grapes from vineyards all over the island. Working across this vast areas allows Francesc to experiment with fruit from difference soils and altitudes, ensuring that each vintage is equally intriguing and distinct.
The name of the estate, ‘4 Kilos’, comes from the Spanish slang for 4 million – roughly the number of pesetas which Francesc initially invested in his project. We believe that this relatively minimal initial start-up fund emphasises the fact that the production of good wine does not rely on huge sums of money, rather highlighting the importance of ambition for quality and passion for the product.
Full bodied and complex, packed with juicy plum and smoky characters, lovely creamy texture with a good tannic grip, plenty savoury notes on the finish.
