Rural location – Pinot Noir dominated – sabrage experts
Unlike many of the region’s leading houses, Canard Duchene is found not in the urban setting of Reims or Epernay, but on the hillsides of Ludes. At the heart of the Montagne de Reims vineyards, this unusual location is just one of the many aspects that ensure Canard-Duchene is unique to many of its competitors.
Now owned by Alain Thienot, the house has been producing Pinot Noir based vintages since its inception in 1868, and over the years has attracted many esteemed customers, among them the Russian royal family, which at the end of the 19th century granted the house the right to use the Russian Imperial Family coat of arms on its label.
The famous technique of “sabrage” – when a bottle of Champagne is opened using a sword - is a trademark of the Canard Duchêne house, a skill worth learning for those who like to uncork their bottles in style!
This Cuvée is a tribute to the woman who jointly founded the house in 1868, Léonie Duchêne. It is stylish and has a lovely toasted brioche, peach, and cream flavours, with a long, fresh finish.
