Family owned – unique terroir
Taken over by the Tomassi family in 1997, the estate of Poggio Al Tufo is situated in the town of Pitigliano in southern Tuscany.
The name of the estate is a reference to the unique terroirs of the region, loosely translating to English as ‘the hill on volcanic soil’.
As well as the ‘tufo’ filled soil, the terroir of the estate is aided by the presence of the Mediterranean Sea just 25 kilometres away. The influence of the sea prevents drastic temperature variations, allowing the vines to flower and ripen early, aiding the production of zingy, fresh wines such as their signature Vermentino.
Originally from Liguria, Vermentino is a typical Mediterranean grape variety. Full of juicy and ripe lemon characters, zippy and aromatic. Will match grilled seafood perfectly.Vermentino is the Italian grape variety grown all along the coast and is closely associated with typical Italian seafood dishes. Zingy, zesty white with peach and green lime personality.
