Domaine Sébastien Brunet

Sébastien Brunet is well-known as an introverted, softly-spoken oracle of information when it comes to the vines and land of Vouvray, having been born and brought up within the appellation.

The estate has been in the family for 6 generations, during which time it has grown from 3 to 15 hectares. Originally, Sebastien’s ancestors simply sold the fruit that they produced to the local cooperative. However, in the mid-1970s Sébastien’s father Michel inherited the vineyard and dedicated himself to producing wines solely from their own fruit.

Following his father’s death in 2006, Sébastien took over at the helm of the estate and since then, has risen to prominence among a new generation of Vouvray producers who are making wines in a drier style and utilising minimal intervention techniques. With each year that passes, Sébastien collects more accolades and we are delighted to be able to introduce to our portfolio.

Vouvray Demi Sec ‘La Folie’ 2018

‘La Folie’ is an off-dry cuvee, in this case just ever-so-slightly tipping on to the off-dry scale.

Sébastien has won multiple awards for this wine, including high praise from La Revue du Vin de France, France's most important wine publication. Upon tasting, it is easy to see why! Fresh acidity and gentle sweetness combined with zesty, sherbert-like acidity to give a wine that is lively and long-lasting – Vouvray at its very best.

Rock 'n Roller Coaster

L'Art du Vin has some cracking wines, including a great selection from the Loire, where Chenin Blanc comes in a whole range of styles. This delicious, just off-dry wine (can't find the residual sugar levels) is a cracker. Not a great deal on the nose (candy floss and oil...and then washing powder?!), but delicious, moreish flavours from the lips down. Viscous and creamy, but with a clean mouthfeel, and then strawberry jam, ripe mango, honeysuckle and some gentle acidity. At the finish, there's a spatter of pepper. Crikey, Chenin Blanc strikes hard on the 'more' button in the hands of Sebastien Brunet.
