Gewurztraminer Orchidées Sauvages, Domaine Muré, Alsace, France 2018
Regular price £17.00
Muré is recognised as one of the most historic producers in Alsace, with origins going back to 1650. Today, the 11th and 12th generation are in charge, making wines that are improving year-on-year. They are also developing a burgeoning reputation for their impressive red wine production.
The estate is based just outside the town of Rouffach in southern Alsace. Even in a region known for its lack of rainfall, this area is particularly dry and sunny, providing the perfect conditions for Pinot Noir cultivation.
At the helm is René Muré, softly spoken and thoughtful, aided by his two children, Véronique and Thomas. The jewel in their crown is the famous monopole vineyard of Clos Saint Landelin. This site was named after an Irish saint who reputedly settled here in the ninth century to preach the gospel and it is located as part of the grand cru Vorbourg.
Gewurztraminer Orchidées Sauvages 2018
Complex, yet delicate example of this wonderful white grape. Subtle floral aromas, spice and white peach with a streak of limey acidity and a long rich finish.
