Champagne Louis Roederer
Founded in 1776, and controlled by the same family since 1819, Louis Roederer is one of the last major Champagne Houses to be an independent family affair. The original Louis Roederer was a visionary in the Champagne world. In the mid-19th Century, he purchased his own grand cru vineyards, at a time when his contemporaries were buying in the majority of their grapes. Over time, he patiently experimented in order to learn which parcels of his land were best suited to particular grape varieties. The result was the creation of iconic Champagnes that even now, generations later, we are still able to enjoy.
Roederer's NV Brut Premier is based on a Pinot Noir dominant blend (40%) backed up by around 25% Pinot Meunier and 35% Chardonnay.
Unusually, the reserve wines are stored blank - that is without lees - ensuring the resulting cuvee is bright and fruit-forward, rather than peppered with more yeasty, savoury notes. Therefore, expect an energetic, delicate wine that is remarkably fresh with subtle hints of toasty oak notes.
