We are extremely excited by the arrival of the wines which form part of the Distant Noises range, brought to life by winemaker Tom Carson. We know Tom very well through his work at Yabby Lake, where he was won a whole host of accolades for his wines. For this project, Tom set himself a very specific set of goals centring on the key objective of producing top quality Mornington Wines at prices rarely seen in this region.
In his eyes, he has achieved many of his goals at the premium end of Mornington, therefore the opportunity to create a more accessible range of wines that show off this fascinating part of Australia was not to be missed. And we certainly think that they hit the spot – precise, clean and sustainable winemaking highlighting the cool climate potential that Mornington has to offer.
The fruit was hand harvested and pressed in small batches before it was left to settle overnight. French oak barrels (500 litre puncheons) were used for fermentation before the wine was aged on yeast lees for 10 months.
Expect aromas of citrus notes, stone fruit and subtle hints of spicy French oak. The palate has a rounded texture, focused acidity and excellent balance, leading to a long and persistent finish.
