BLANKBOTTLE – Pieter H. Walser
We are delighted to be able to introduce to you the BLANKbottle range from critically-acclaimed South African winemaker Pieter H. Walser. Below, Pieter explains when he first established the basic premise of the concept.
“In 2004, a lady came to my house to buy wine. She asked for anything but Shiraz. "I don't drink Shiraz", were her exact words. I poured her a glass of wine. She loved it and bought 3 cases. It was a straight Shiraz. It's a fact - we do judge the book by its cover.”
And so was born the idea of a range of wines that has no limitations when it comes to style, vintage, area or grape varieties. The result is a selection wines that excite and intrigue the mind in equal measure.
“Confessions of a White Glove Chaser” is an intriguing blend of Cabernet Sauvignon supported by Cinsault and Malbec that comes with an equally intriguing story. Pieter began to notice a lot of wineries spending big budgets on wine consultants to advise them on which particular grape varieties to plant on specific sites.
In his own words, some of his neighbours, “began to spend obscene amounts of cash on local and international consultants in areas like viticulture and soil science - basically terroir fundis. Being a fan of most of these philosophies/wines produced, I started tracking them. Yes them, there are quite a few. One group I call “The White Gloves”. So where they buy Cabernet Sauvignon, I buy right next to them. It’s that simple. My very creative strategy. So, this wine is, on my side, a confession that I am a white glove chaser.”
