Tasca

Eight generations of the same family have now presided over the Tasca estate in central Sicily. They have now added two other vineyard plots to their holdings, allowing them to plant a wide range of indigenous grape varieties in a variety of climatic conditions and settings.

Tasca were among a handful of producers who, in the late 1950s, took the decision to begin promoting Sicily as an area of quality wine production, rather than simply being known for bulk volume as it had previously.

One of the key tenets of the project is sustainability and the winery is now almost entirely self-sufficient, producing its own vegetables, fruit, wheat, olives and cheese.

Another key philosophy is the integral relationship between food and wine. The desire to focus on gastronomic wines has always been at the forefront of the team’s mind, to the extent that they have established a world renowned cook school among their vines!

Ghiaia Nera Nerello Mascalese 2016

A delightful, early-drinking example of Etna’s great red grape variety, Nerello Mascalese, this clear ruby-coloured wine offers aromas of red fruit, flowers and leather. The palate is fluid and silky, with an appetising mineral quality.
