Lourens Family Wines
We are delighted to be able to introduce you to this range from a young winemaker who is very quickly establishing himself at the forefront of the South Africa scene.
Franco Lourens has served his apprenticeship as assistant winemaker to the highly-regarded Chris Alheit while simultaneously establishing his Lourens Family Wines project. From his base in Hermanus, he works with a series of growers to source the best fruit from sites of unique interest before a vinification process that involves indigenous yeasts, very light filtration and omits fining. The results are a spectacular selection of wines that we believe re-affirm Franco’s commitment to his key mantra – “Wines need to be interesting!” We certainly agree!
Howard John 2019
This blend of Cinsault (33%), Grenache (30%), Syrah (21%) and Carignan (16%) is made in honour of Franco’s late father. It is supple, rounded and elegant yet bursting with flavour. Expect initial notes of sweet cherries, olives before a lively palate with hints of damson and fine, elegant tannins. The finish is long and gently savoury, delicious!
