The Darling Wines
‘The Darling’ project was born in 2007, when Chris Darling and Bart Arnst decided to join forces to make terroirs-driven wines in the region of Marlborough, New Zealand. Previously, they had been making wines for other producers but both had reached the stage in their career where they felt the time was right to begin working for themselves. They are now very much at the vanguard of organic wine production in Marlborough, with all of their wines certified organic by BioGro New Zealand.
Bart was recently dubbed “The Organic Guy” in a special awards ceremony held by the Organic Winegrowers of New Zealand, as recognition for his work in the promotion of organics across the industry. In the past, he has worked with world renowned producers such as Seresin in their conversion to organics. Since he left Seresin in 2005, he has concentrated his efforts in the provision of a consultancy service to those interested in change and has worked closely with a large percentage of the New Zealand organic winegrower sector.
Bearing their respective backgrounds in mind, it should come as no surprise that Chris and Bart are stringent believers in the use of minimal intervention techniques alongside a philosophy that limits their impact to the soil and earth. Through the adoption of this ethos, they believe they are able to produce wines that are truly connected to the region of Marlborough, giving the customer a direct connection with the terroirs of the area.
